Waverley’s first Batter Up programs a great success
Waverley’s first Batter Up programs were a great success, with volunteers and participants alike learning lots about softball, working with kids, the Batter Up program and how to make it work. Being flexible is definitely the key in all of the above!! We were fortunate to have primary school teachers amongst our first coaching group, including Raiders own Sheryl Ecker and Jo Spencer from Brandon Heights. The high ratio of volunteers to kids also worked well, with our junior coaches a hit with the kids and right in the middle of the action at all times. Click here to see some action.
Feedback from players & parents has been terrific. The WSA committee supplied morning tea treats that were a daily highlight for the kids. We had all sorts of weather conditions across the program: glorious sunshine one day – wild winds the next – and bucketing rain on the last day of week 1. So we moved inside the pavilion and played on with soft foam balls – no problem. We even had Natalie Titcume join the kids for a hit in our last session … and after some sneaky base-running Nat was tagged out at home!
Sheryl prepared a news article which has been uploaded to the Leader newspaper – follow the attached link or read some more on the Waverley Softball website. http://leader-news.whereilive.com.au/your-news/story/batter-up-at-waverley/
