Raiders over Falcons in top two mid-week clash!

Our 15/12 mid-week clash with Falcons coincided with the Raiders Christmas Party and I am pleased to say that the crowd were treated to a high-class game of softball that was fitting for the top-two teams. Raider prevailed 3-1 in a very entertaining, high standard encounter.

Fresh between night shift schedules Ilsa Wakeling was again the dominant starting pitcher. Shutting down the Falcons offense from the first pitch of the game, Ilsa threw a 7 inning complete game, giving up 5 scattered hits, walking none and striking out 5. Ilsa was well supported by a very tidy Raiders defence.

Defensive play of the day was a none-out 5-2 play at home on a Falcons sacrifice squeeze in the top of the 2nd – wonderfully executed by Emily Grisold who flipped the bunted ball to Racquel who made the tag on the sliding runner at home. This play again typified the youthful depth and capability in our squad.

Offensively we got on the board in the 1st inning by putting pressure on the field that saw Nat score on an error via a Racquel ground ball to Short. The stand-out offensive play of the day was a 2-RBI triple by Racquel to right field in the 3rd inning driving in Nat and Maddie, the latter who had led off the inning with a lead-off single from the 9 slot. These two runs gave us the buffer we needed as Falcons only run came in the 6th and we quickly snuffed out their rally.

This was our last game prior to the Christmas break and was a great way to finish off 2011.

HITS: Titcume 2, Di Paola M 2, Bisinella-Duns 1 (triple), Addlem 1.
