Raiders A Grade over E-Jays in 7-inning mid-week clash
Eastern Raiders 8 d Lilydale E-Jays 2
After consecutive weekends of poor weather, we were very fortunate to get a game in on Wednesday given that the weather had looked ominous all day.
The small but vocal supporter group were treated to a good game of Softball. We were again led by starting pitcher Ilsa Wakeling who dominated the Lilydale batting line-up from the first inning. Ilsa threw four innings of no-hit shutout softball, walking two and striking out seven. Kirsty Allen then threw three inning of tidy relief, giving up 2 unlucky runs on 5 hits, walking 1 and striking out 2.
We started the game very well as lead-off hitter Racquel Bisinella-Duns scorched a double to left-field and was then driven in by Nat Titcume on a one-out single to left. We scored 2 runs on 3 hits in the First and then 5 runs on 2 hits and a couple of walks in the 2nd to take early control of the contest. Offensive play of the day was the 3-RBI bases-loaded double by Lauren Daykin in the bottom of the 2nd.
Defensively Ilsa and Lauren were the stand-outs, however our overall fielding was very tidy. Play of the day was a one-out 1-2-3 bases loaded double play on a come-backer to pitcher Kirsty Allen who threw home to Lauren who picked up the half volley throw while standing on the plate and then gunned the runner out at First. The double play snuffed out a 6th inning E-Jays rally.
Given the challenges with weather and forfeits it was quite handy that the game went the full seven innings as a number of our younger players had seen very little game time in recent weeks.
HITS: Titcume 2, Bell 2, Daykin 1 (Double), Bisinella-Duns 1 (Double), Wakeling 1, Grisold 1
